Blue eyes, Brown eyes

There is a course by educator Jane Elliott that teaches children and adults alike about the false narrative we are exposed to about the colour of a persons skin.

I was lucky enough to participate in one of these practical courses as a teenager and it had a profound effect on my way of thinking. The more time we provide discussing "Black and White" issues the more we focus on the colour, the more we distract from the opportunities. We are Human beings, the only difference is slightly more or less melanin. In this modern age with access to smart phones, apps, public education and social programs we should be winning the war against oppression, poverty and education. We are not, and that is because some people keep focusing on the wrong thing.

There is, and always will be more to bind us than divide us. We are Australian's, Territorians, Human Beings, and even more together.

We all have the same needs to feel love, significance, a need for security (certainty), variety, growth (education), and contribution.

- We have cultural opportunities - Educational opportunities - Safety and Security opportunities - Community entertainment opportunities - Economic opportunities so many great opportunities to create, share and benefit from...

The real issues we deal with today are

- Helping the vulnerable creating safety and security - Creating art, events and attractions to celebrate our cultures - Listening and learning empathy to empower and grow - Learning 4 life, educating people - Participating in volunteer programs/events like clean up Australia Day etc to contribute

We need to stop focusing on the fear and anxiety we create in our heads, acknowledge they are in our heads for a different time(hundreds of thousands of years ago) and grow up. If you have a chance watch this below

I believe programs like this need to be taught even to adults today to get them to understand the ignorance that comes from dividing our community based on colour. We can embrace or evolve or acknowledge our cultural differences and change those that no longer serve us. That's what a progressive society does.... we grow.

If you want to release society from ignorance and embrace a progressive move towards getting things done together instead of division. Vote for a Progressive Councillor this election. If you live or have friends that live in the ward of Richardson get them to Vote 1 for Sam Wilks this 26th August 2017.
