We as a people in Australia sometimes forget that unity is, at its very best, morally neutral and often a source of irrationality. Rampaging mobs are unified. Criminal motorcycle groups are unified. Gangs of Apex predators are unified. The Mafia is unified. Marauding barbarians bent on rape and pillage are unified.
But, civilised people have disagreements, and truly passionate leftists have arguments. True libertarianism is based on this fundamental insight, which is why fascism hates liberty.
The true libertarian will reject the idea that unity is more valuable than individuality. For fascists and other leftists, meaning and authenticity are found in the collective victimisation enterprises of class, nation, income or race, and in there ideology the state is there to enforce that meaning on everyone without the obstruction of debate. On this day “Australia Day” I am not agitated by the opinions of individuals who show passion, whether misguided or purposely missing or misleading facts. I only hope that we as Australians are able to observe and reflect on the character and actions of the most malevolent in our society and seek ways to educate and vaccinate ourselves from such possession.
